MoonanMoonan Flat is a peaceful little village in a beautiful setting ringed by the Mount Royal Range, on the upper Hunter River, which flows into Lake Glenbawn.
The township was founded to serve the goldminers of The Denison diggings in the 1870s. It was initially proclaimed as Macqueen but known locally as Moonan. Gold was located at Moonan Brook. Prior to the advent of motor vehicles as the normal form of transport, Moonan Flat was an important service centre for the top end of the Hunter Valley. What to do in Moonan:
